All Wilhelm Automotive Shops Are Environmentally Friendly

WILHELM AUTO GOES GREEN!

Arizona Green BusinessAn auto repair shop is likely one of the last places one would think of as a “green” business, but Wilhelm Automotive’s family owned and operated auto repair business, has just become an official Arizona Green Business. All five Wilhelm Automotive locations have been certified.

There are currently only 11 Automotive Service Association (ASA) Phoenix-area auto repair shops listed on the Arizona Department of Environmental Equality website, five of which are the Wilhelm Auto locations. To be a green shop, Wilhelm Auto had to qualify in two major areas: preventing pollution and conserving resources. Becoming a green business consisted of an application and scoring process through the ASA, which assessed points in everything from landscaping to oil disposal processes. Re-inspection is required annually and the points required to pass as a green business will increase.

Some of the criteria to be certified included:

  • Cleaning and De-greasing – Use low-hazard, low-pollution solvents or water-based cleaning.
  • Waste Fluids – Recycle and reuse fluids whenever possible.
  • Housekeeping – Practice spill prevention, seal shop floors, recycle oil
  • Energy Conservation – Save energy with efficient lighting, “green” office equipment, energy-efficient air conditioning.
  • Water Conservation – Properly maintain plumbing, install low-water use fixtures, use desert landscaping and dry-floor clean-up procedures.
  • Waste Reduction – Reduce paper use, recycle as many other materials as possible, buy and use recycled products when practical.

“As a business that has a responsibility to the communities and environments around us, we know it’s important to take the steps to act in a conservation-minded way,” said Chris Garman, Wilhelm Auto General Manager. “We are happy to be considered a green shop and to provide an environ-mentally conscious business for our customers and our employees.”
